4 Full Professors in Information and Software Science 

The University of St. Gallen is undertaking a major initiative to mainstream digital sciences across its core disciplines of management, economics, law, and international affairs. In pursuit of this goal, the university has established a new Department of Computer Science within the School of Management and seeks applicants for each of four initial chaired professorships in the fields of Software Systems Programming and Development, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, and Interaction- and Communication-based Systems.

We seek outstanding academics who have demonstrated thought leadership in any of the following fields, adapted to applications relevant to the core disciplines of our university:

  • algorithm design, programming and software development (Software Systems Programming and Development)
  • questions related to the structure of (big) data, with a focus on data analytics and data technologies (Data Science)
  • learning systems, statistical modeling, or real-time information handling tools (Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning)
  • and questions related to interconnected, distributed, and interactive software structures, including the internet, the World Wide Web, and the Internet of Things (Interaction- and Communication-based Systems).

The successful candidates will have a track record of internationally recognized high-quality research and teaching experience in at least one of the fields mentioned above. Openness to interdisciplinary collaboration with one of the core disciplines of the University of St. Gallen would be expected. 

Upon successful integration of digital sciences into the larger curriculum of the university, the new department will serve as the basis for an independent school within the university.
